I just looked at the calendar and refuse to admit it to myself. Summer is nearly over. Whether that means the end of warmer weather is up to Mother Nature (come on Indian summer). But as Labor Day nears, gradually my fears are turning from dying alone to dying frozen AND alone bundled in an alleyway like the Little Match Girl.
In what will be a three-part series on summer, here are some things I am going to miss:
Shameless and shirtless Lake Shore running with my best gaysian in tow.
Boat rides.
Patios on which to stuff my face from breakfast to dinner or drink on from dusk till dawn. Sidetrack patio I already miss you, tears on my pillow.
Lady Gaga vs. Britney Spears related cat-fights with punches thrown and nails out at Melrose Diner.
Bike rides.
The LVAC rooftop pool and it’s many wonders. Since my water has been turned off for months, how else will I bathe myself?
Beach blanket blackouts from Oak Street to Hollywood Beach. Annette Funicello and other Mouseketeers would be proud.
Scooter rides.
Sunday Fundays that end with personal renditions of Khia’s “My Neck, My Back (Lick It)” sprawled out on top of my friend’s kitchen bar.
Wearing so little on the ‘L’ that besides the awkward glances, you just feel… unsafe.
Cute foreign domestic and international tourists.
Sidetrack slushies, two are guaranteed to send you to Berlin and get your fag-hag refused at the door.
Running through pouring rain and arriving soaked at the Closet for casual encounters, Red Bull breath and a drink slick dance-floor. You know, the stuff of life. I’m gonna get a STD tonight!
Sunsets. Beaches. Lakefront trails.
Cooking-out, blacking-out and coming-out.
